Double Black Diamond Golf Course at Holiday Valley

Ellicottville, New York, May 17, 2016 . . .  The snow has finally melted off Holiday Valley’s “Double Black Diamond” golf course and the summer season is getting underway.  As the name implies, the Double Black Diamond is quite challenging, but with the multiple tees on each hole, golfers can match their ability to the distance and keep up with the pace of play.  Par is 70 for the 6,500 yard course.  The front nine is relatively flat with a series of ponds and devilish bunkers.  The back nine winds around the base of the ski slopes for some very interesting and scenic play.  The slope from the double black diamond tees is 126, from the black tees it is 121, from the blue tees it is 115 and from the green tees it is 118.  When measured for speed on a Stimpmeter, the greens are 9.5 to 10, which is relatively fast, but not overly difficult.

The Double Black Diamond is a “Resort” course with play offered to lodging guests and the public, but memberships are also available.  The daily rate for 18 holes with a cart on weekdays (Sunday after 2:00 through Thursday) is $52 and the rate for 18 holes with a cart on weekends (Friday through Sunday) is $64.

Leagues are an ideal way to enjoy the game of golf and socialize with like-minded players.  Holiday Valley’s Men’s League plays on Tuesday afternoons, Ladies League on Monday afternoons and Couples League on Thursday afternoons.  The Wednesday Beginner Ladies’ Group offers a gentle and fun way for women to learn about all aspects of golf and to improve through 15 minute lessons and on-course play.  Each Ladies’ session is only $13 with optional $9 for a cart.

Golf lessons are offered by Holiday Valley’s Master PGA Professional, Steven Carney, PGA Professional Kyle Benish and USGTF Instructor, Tom Dirito.  Lessons take place at the Practice Facility that includes 10 covered tees and up to 50 grass tees, along with two practice greens for chipping, bunker and putting lessons.  The internationally known Mel Sole Golf School begins at Holiday Valley on July 2nd.  This is a three day school that runs Tuesday through Thursday or Friday through Sunday, and includes golf instruction on all aspects of the long and short game.  Computerized teaching equipment is used to diagnose swing problems and to monitor results.  The full service Golf Shop at the resort has a wide selection of clubs, bags balls, clothing, shoes and accessories.  Club technology has grown tremendously over the past few years and the Holiday Valley Pros can recommend the best match to each player’s ability.

Holiday Valley welcomes groups for tournaments and outings such as charity fundraisers, company teambuilding events and customer appreciation outings.  Services include individualized scoring sheets, score calculation and special contests like the longest drive, closest to the pin, straightest drive and longest putt.  Meals and beverage service can be customized for the outing.

After a round of golf, guests can enjoy the many amenities of Holiday Valley Resort including the poolside Cabana Bar and John Harvard’s Brew House for beverages and food.  A refreshing pool complex is available for tired golfers to cool off, or for the family to enjoy while others are out on the course.  Sky High Adventure Park, also located at Holiday Valley attracts outdoor enthusiasts in the Aerial Park, the Climbing Forest and the Mountain Coaster.  Ellicottville Oasis Spa, located at the Tamarack Club at Holiday Valley, offers massage treatments specifically targeted to golfers.

A wide variety of very affordable golf and lodging packages are offered at course-side Inn at Holiday Valley, the Tamarack Club and Holiday Valley Rental Properties.
