Holiday Valley Safety Patrol

Ellicottville, NY – May 18, 2026 – Holiday Valley Resort’s Safety Patrol team was honored Saturday, May 16, with the inaugural “Outstanding Mountain Host Program” award at the National Ski Patrol Eastern Division awards banquet.

The Eastern Division includes ski areas and patrol programs across 11 states, from Pennsylvania through Maine. This year marked the first time the award was presented, making Holiday Valley the first-ever recipient of the honor.
Holiday Valley Safety Patrol founder Bill Steinbroner and current Safety Manager Bob Piede attended the banquet to accept the award on behalf of the team.

Founded in 1978 by Steinbroner, the Holiday Valley Safety Patrol has played a key role in enhancing the guest experience for nearly five decades. The team assists skiers and snowboarders throughout the resort while promoting mountain safety, courtesy, and guest service.

“This recognition is a tremendous honor for our entire Safety Patrol team,” said Piede. “Our volunteers are passionate about helping guests enjoy a safe, welcoming, and memorable experience on the slopes. Receiving this award from the National Ski Patrol Eastern Division is a reflection of their dedication and commitment.”

The award recognizes outstanding mountain host programs that demonstrate excellence in guest assistance, mountain presence, and overall service to skiers and snowboarders.

Steinbroner said the recognition reflects the continued strength of the program and the people behind it.
“When we started the Safety Patrol in 1978, we wanted to help guests feel comfortable, informed, and welcomed on the mountain,” said Steinbroner. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see the program receive this level of recognition after so many years.”

By earning the Eastern Division award, Holiday Valley is now in contention for the National Ski Patrol’s “Best Overall National Mountain Host Program” award, which recognizes the top mountain host program in the United States.
