Holiday Valley Welcomes Ski Industry Leaders

Holiday Valley was proud to host the 2025 Ski Areas of New York (SANY) and Pennsylvania Outdoor Recreation Association (PORA) Conference and Expo on September 15 - 17, 2025. The Exop brought together more than 350 ski industry professionals from across the Northeast and beyond. Over three days, Ellicottville became the hub of networking, education, and celebration for ski areas and suppliers working to grow winter sports and strengthen resort communities.

A Perfect Blend of Business and Fun

The conference kicked off with activities that highlighted the best of Holiday Valley and Ellicottville. Attendees teed off in a golf scramble at the Double Black Diamond Golf Course, hit the trails at nearby HoliMont for some great downhill mountain biking, joined guided road rides, and enjoyed a wine stroll through the village. The evening transitioned into the first of four lively trade show sessions, where suppliers showcased the latest innovations to help ski areas operate more efficiently and enhance the guest experience.

For conference attendees, this combination of professional development and outdoor recreation is what makes Holiday Valley such a memorable venue. With golf, hiking, mountain biking, Sky High Adventure Park, and the charming Village of Ellicottville just minutes away, groups can mix productive sessions with unforgettable downtime. It’s this unique blend of work and play that keeps organizations returning year after year.

Education for Every Corner of the Industry

With nearly 30 educational sessions, the conference offered valuable insights for professionals at every level. Technical workshops such as “Pump Basics for Operators” gave hands-on learning opportunities, while broader discussions covered marketing, technology, leadership, and risk management. New York Department of Labor representatives led sessions on state-specific regulations, ensuring attendees left with practical takeaways.

One highlight was the General Managers Roundtable, moderated by SAM Magazine editor Dave Meeker. Holiday Valley’s President and General Manager Dennis Eshbaugh joined leaders from Bear Creek, Ski Big Bear, and Holiday Mountain to discuss leadership, company culture, and the shared mission of introducing more people to skiing and snowboarding.

The evening of Tuesday the 16th, everyone gathered at the Yodeler Lodge for an 80's themed dinner party, highlighted by Buffalo's own Nerds Gone Wild, performing 80's hits late into the night.

Celebrating Achievements and Building Connections

Beyond workshops and panels, the conference was filled with moments of recognition and celebration. Awards included the Stafford Safety in Skiing honor, presented by Holiday Valley’s Dennis Eshbaugh and Bristol Mountain’s Dan Fuller. Windham Mountain Club’s Chip Seamans was inducted into the Ski NY Hall of Fame, recognizing his longstanding contributions to the industry.

Fundraising was also a focus, with Ski NY president Scott Brandi leading an auction that raised money for the Snow Angel Foundation. Evening events, including an 80s-themed banquet and fireworks display, kept spirits high and fostered camaraderie among attendees.
