Holiday Valley’s commitment to guest experience and mountain safety received national recognition this weekend as the Holiday Valley Safety Patrol was awarded the “Outstanding Mountain Host Program” at the National Ski Patrol Eastern Division awards banquet on Saturday, May 16.
The Eastern Division of the National Ski Patrol includes resorts and patrol programs across 11 states, stretching from Pennsylvania to Maine. This year marked the very first time the award was presented, making the recognition even more meaningful for the Holiday Valley team, which proudly became the inaugural recipient.
Founded in 1978 by Bill Steinbroner, the Holiday Valley Safety Patrol has spent nearly five decades helping guests enjoy safe, welcoming, and memorable days on the slopes. Steinbroner attended the banquet alongside current Safety Manager Bob Piede to accept the award on behalf of the team.
The Holiday Valley Safety Patrol plays an important role in the guest experience, assisting skiers and snowboarders throughout the resort while promoting mountain safety, courtesy, and awareness. From helping guests navigate the slopes to supporting on-mountain operations during busy weekends and events, the team has become a familiar and trusted presence across the resort.
“This award reflects the dedication and passion of our entire Safety Patrol team,” said Piede. “Their commitment to helping guests feel welcome and safe on the mountain is what makes Holiday Valley such a special place for families and groups to ski and snowboard together.”
The recognition also highlights the lasting impact of Steinbroner’s vision when he created the program in 1978. What began as a way to improve the guest experience on the slopes has grown into one of the most respected mountain host programs in the region.
In addition to the Eastern Division honor, Holiday Valley is now in the running for the National Ski Patrol’s “Best Overall National Mountain Host Program” award, placing the resort among the top mountain host programs in the country.
For Holiday Valley guests, the award represents something they experience every day during the winter season: friendly faces, helpful guidance, and a team dedicated to making every visit fun, safe, and memorable.
As Holiday Valley looks ahead to another exciting ski and snowboard season, the recognition serves as a celebration of the people who help create the welcoming atmosphere that has defined the resort for generations.
