Children's Lessons

Cubs and Mountain Adventures Children's Ski & Snowboard Program

For kids ages 4 to 11.

We understand kids and snow! The trick is having fun on the snow where the learning happens naturally. Cubs (4 and 5 year olds) and Mountain Adventures (6 to 11 year olds) programs are located in the Creekside Lodge, adjacent to the Holiday Valley Lodge. Children are grouped in lessons by age and ability. Sign up for ski and snowboard programs, rent equipment and arrange for lunch all in one convenient location. Lift tickets are included during class for children ages 4 and 5.

Reservations are required for all Cubs lessons for 4 and 5 year olds, please call (716) 699-3505  or register online. Mountain Adventures may also register online or at Creekside Lodge.

When appropriate, lessons may take place at the Burton Riglet Park at Penguin Hill, located just outside the Creekside Lodge.

Childrens Programs Safety Information

Helmet Safety

Helmets provide significant protection, but they cannot provide total protection from all foreseeable impacts. It's up to you to educate yourself about their benefits and limitations. Ultimately, the choice of whether to wear a helmet is one of personal or parental choice. By following Your Responsibility Code you will reduce your risk of all types of injuries. Helmet rentals are available in the High Performance Shop on the lower level of the Clubhouse Chalet and in the new Creekside Lodge. Go to the Lids on Kids website for more information on kids & helmets.

Chairlift Safety

Mountain Adventure programs include instruction and use of chairlifts and/or tows. Riding a lift may occur without an instructor. Children may be required to ride the chairlift with other children in the class, Holiday Valley employees or other adults in the lift line. Riding a chairlift can be a hazardous activity for your child. By allowing your child to enroll, you acknowledge the inherent risks of skiing and accept any and all injury to your child. According to Your Responsibility Code, it is your responsibility to know how to use and ride the lifts safely.

Visit KidsOnLifts.org with your child to learn about the importance of lift safety. Be sure to watch this fun animated video below with simple and understandable rules about loading and unloading the lifts safely. Parents be sure to watch this informative video on chairlift safety with your kids.

Here are some important things to discuss with your child about chairlift safety...

  1. While waiting in line watch how people are loading the lift. Ask the lift attendant if you have any questions.
  2. Put away phones or game devices before getting on the lift.
  3. If it's your turn to load but you're not ready, it's OK to miss a chair.
  4. Sit back as far as possible in the chair and don't lean on the restraint bar.
  5. If your pole or glove starts to fall from the chair, don't try to grab it. You can pick it up later.
  6. At the top stand up and ski/ride down the ramp, then move out of the way so others can unload.
