HOLIDAY VALLEY RESORT
SHHHHH! DON’T TELL MOTHER NATURE IT’S SPRING!
Ellicottville, New York, March 21, 2013 . . . With wall to wall snow cover and more snow in the forecast, spring has not arrived at Holiday Valley just yet. The resort has received more than 70 inches of snow since the beginning of February and more than 16 inches just this week. With mid-winter conditions, it looks like the snow will be plentiful right up through the target closing date of April 7th.
Holiday Valley offers a wonderful location for an Easter Break ski getaway. Fun events are planned for the next few weekends and there are plenty of area activities. Spring rates are in effect for lift tickets with savings up to 50 percent off lift tickets when booking lodging packages at the slopeside Tamarack Club at Holiday Valley.
In addition to skiing and snowboarding there are so many things to do in Ellicottville, like visiting a real Sugar Shack for pancakes and fresh maple syrup, hiking, snowshoeing or cross country skiing at Allegany State Park, visiting nearby Amish farms for hand-made quilts, furniture and more, visiting the Seneca-Iroquios National Museum in Salamanca, exploring the Enchanted Mountain GeoTrail and shopping and dining in Ellicottville. A list of activities can be found at www.EnchantedMountains.com.
The annual Pond Skimming and Cardboard Box Race will take place on March 23rd at Holiday Valley’s Yodeler Lodge. It is not unlikely to catch someone skimming across an ice water filled pond in their bikini . . . who said skiers and riders are normal people? Prizes will be awarded for the Best Skimmer, Best Costume, Best Kid and Best Splash. Competitors in the Cardboard Box race are encouraged to use their creative skills to win a prize for Originality, Funniest, Best Costume and Best in Show as they navigate their box down the hill to the finish line. Music will be provided by DJ John Barry and a special barbeque and outdoor margarita bar will supply refreshments to the spectators.
Registration for each event is $5 and takes place at 11:00 a.m. outside the Yodeler Lodge. Kids under 18 need a parent’s signature and helmets are required for the Box Race.
The annual demo ski sale is taking place at Holiday Valley’s High Performance Shop Ski Sale located slopeside in the new Holiday Valley Lodge.
