Holiday Valley Spring Skiing Events
Ellicottville, New York, February 24, 2014 . . . Skiers, snowboarders and people of all ages will have plenty of fun this spring at Holiday Valley. A full schedule of events is planned through early April including competitions, parties, contests and entertainment. Here are some of the highlights.
Telestock on February 28th is an annual telemark festival with free demos, tele-tips, a race and a cookout. Winter Carnival is scheduled for March 8th and 9th and features parades, events, contests, snow sculptures, cookouts and music on the slopes and in the Village of Ellicottville. Perhaps the most memorable event of the Carnival is the Dummy Downhill where guests create dummies on skis or snowboards that slide down the hill, fly over a jump and crash into a wall of snow.
The USSA Eastern Freestyle EQS Championships on March 14th through 16th is an invitational for the top 160 B-level Freestyle skiers in slopestyle, aerial and mogul competitions. Competitors are divided into two divisions; the Young Guns are ages 10 and under and the Youth are ages 11 to 18.
The Gun ‘N Hoses Race on March 15th pits the Holiday Valley snowmaking team against snowmakers from other resorts in the area. The race consists of two snowmakers carrying a hose through a slalom course and then at the finish line they must hook the hose properly to a snowmaking hydrant. The Northwind Super G on March 23rd is a chance for all to let ‘er rip down a Super G course on Northwind. A radar gun on the course measures the fastest speed each skier attains. Pond Skimming on March 22nd is the final big event of the year where skiers and snowboarders go down the hill and attempt to skim across an ice water filled pond. Bonus points are awarded for creative costumes and big splashes.
The season is scheduled to end on April 6th, with a very short break until golf season begins.
