Safety Awareness Week

January 15-21, 2012

Safety is always a top priority at Holiday Valley and Safety Awarness Week serves as a reminder to all our guests and staff. Here's a list of activities planned for Safety Week...

  • Cash Chair - if you're the lucky one to get on Cindy's or Mardi Gras chair with a designated Safety Patroller (Yellow Jacket), you can win up to a $5 Holiday Valley gift card! You'll start with the easiest $1 question and work your way up to the big one! The questions all have to do with Safety, so read up on the Responsibility Code and Smart Style. Cash Chair will take place druing night skiing hours.
  • Spin to Win - back by popular demand...visit the Safety Table inside the Clubhouse Chalet and spin the Safety Wheel. If you are able to explain the safety code using the clue on the wheel, you'll win a prize. Visit the Safety Table from 2:00 to 6:00PM on Saturday and Sunday, 6:00 to 8:00PM Monday though Friday.
  • Radar Range - can you judge your speed on the slopes? See if you can match the "speed limit" in our radar trap and win a prize. The speed limit is 20 mph, which is the suggested maximum speed in a slow zone (depending on your ability, of course). The Radar Range is scheduled for Monday through Friday from 4PM to 6PM.
  • Safety Poster Contest - The Day Care and Mountain Adventures are encouraging kids to enter the NSAA Safety Poster Contest, where they illustrate a point of the Responsibility Code or Smart Style. Holiday Valley will declare a winner from our entries, and all the posters will be submitted to NSAA for national judging.
  • The Holiday Valley Ski Patrol has safety buttons to hand out and safety posters around the resort.

While skiing and riding at Holiday Valley be sure to follow these safety rules!

1. Always ski and ride in control
2. People ahead of you have the right of way.
3. Stop only where you can be seen.
4. When starting or merging, look uphill and yield.
5. Obey all signs and warnings.
6. Use devices to prevent runaway equipment.
7. Learn how to ride the lifts safely.

And while in the parks, remember these important points!

  1. Make A Plan - Your speed, approach, takeoff will directly affect your maneuver and landing.
  2.  Look Before You Leap - Scope around the jumps first before you take off.
  3. Easy Style It - Start Small and work your way up.
  4. Respect Gets Respect - From the lift line through the park.
  5. Inverted Aerials are Not Permitted
  6. Clear the Landings of Jumps Immediately
