Columbia Muddy Buddy Duathlon
Muddy Buddy 2012 will not take place. Check out Quavis's video from the 2011 event held on June 18. Muddy Buddy is a fun trail run/mountain bike team event with a twist. The start and finish is at Yodeler Lodge. The course is 6+ miles and you alternate with your partner running and riding. Go over, under or around each of the 4 obstacles located at 1-1/4 mile distances then switch places so the runner becomes the rider and vice versa. The final obstacle is a giant mud pit you both crawl through together! Finisher medals are awarded to all who complete the course, and prizes go to the top finishers. Check out the course map! The HV Mt. Crew is planning a creative post race shower system utilizing our snowmaking system. After the event enjoy the Red Hook Beer Garden and Expo. There's also a mini Muddy Buddy for kids age 4-11. Entrants get a t-shirt and finisher medal. Stay tuned for registration information and details. The COSTUME CONTEST is a blast, get creative! And a fun video! Helmets are required. Here are some helpful tips on competing in the Muddy Buddy • Make your bike identifiable! There are hundreds of bikes throw onto the ground, and when you're tired and trying to rush, finding a specific bike can be tough. Put something on your bike that is easily identifiable for both you and your partner. Something BIG and BRIGHT is best. I always use tinfoil and wrap my frame. • Place your bike in the same place in every line. Agree beforehand, will you park in the front of the bike pile, near the middle, at the end? • Before you dump the bike, shift into an easy gear. This allows your partner a fast and easy start. • Practice running with your helmet on. All participants must wear their helmet the entire race. It bounces, shifts, and makes sweat drip into your eyes. Yuck. Train with your helmet and get used to it. • Watch your eyes in the Mud Pit! This mud is not slippery, but a thick paste that wants to suck off your shoes. You eyes will burn for days if you're not careful. Some people race with swim goggles around their necks and slip them on before entering the pit. Don't dive into the mud! It doesn't work. It's not a slip-and-slide. Ouch. • Wear shoes and clothing that can be trashed, because they will be. • Have fun!
