Sky High Adventure Park
Welcome to Holiday Valley's newest outdoor adventure, Sky High! Located near the Tannenbaum Lodge at the western end of Holiday Valley, Sky High offers an Aerial Park, a Climbing Forest and a Mountain Coaster. Check out our 30 second spot!
The Aerial Park is a series of platforms and “bridges” built in a 4 acre section of the woods. The platforms are built in the trees and the bridges connect the platforms. The bridge may be a log, hanging chunks of wood or other obstacles or ladders and the challenge is to figure out how to get across to the next platform. It is not all strength; it is more strategy and balance. There are 12 courses with varying levels of difficulty and the more difficult the course, the higher up it is in the trees. There are 3 yellow courses (Sunflower, Sunshine and Snapdragon), 4 greens (Forest Run, Mountain Trail, Grand Rapids I and II, and Fern Gully), 2 blues (Waterfall and Rip Tide), a single black diamond (Black Storm) and a double black...The Commando! All courses except Commando have at least one zip line and some have several. Grand Rapids I and II are dual zip line courses that allow Sky High trekkers to go from the park to the base via 2 sets of 6 side-by-side zip lines. The sixth and final zip travels 350 feet down across the Tannenbaum base area to finish next to the Tannenbaum Lodge. It is an exciting end to this great adventure...to say the least! Check out this video from St. Bonaventure's Rugby Team's visit to Sky High.
At Sky High everyone wears a harness with a special locking lanyard that safeguards you from falling if you slip or let go. Children must be at least 7 years old, and all guests must be able to perform certain physical tasks to participate. There is a weight limit of 265 pounds. Reservations are required on weekends and suggested for weekdays at the Aerial Park, call 716-699-HIGH.
New for 2013...2 New Courses The Aerial Park is growing again with two new courses. Over the winter, the crew built a new yellow (easiest) course called Snap Dragon and a green (next level up) course, Fern Gully.
The Climbing Forest is a totally new feature that is like a 3-D version of a climbing wall. It is the only one of its kind in the US. It was designed by Franz Muller of Monkey Hardware, a German company and Bahman Azarm of Outdoor Ventures. Outdoor Ventures is also the designer of Sky High Aerial Park.
There are 10 trees outfitted with color coded climbing holds and the difficulty ranges from very easy (yellow) to very challenging (purple). Each climber is fitted with a harness that is clipped into an Auto Belay system. Once a climber reaches the top of the tree at 45 feet, they just let go and the belay system slowly lowers them to the ground.
The minimum age to enjoy the Climbing Forest is 5 years old. There is also a kids’ area with two trees where the youngest climbers can climb about 6 feet up and climb back down.
Rates for the Climbing Forest are $15 for a half hour session, $25 for an hour session or $40 for a two hour session. The Climbing Forest is open from 9AM to 6PM daily through Labor Day, then weekends through early-November.
The Mountain Coaster is similar to a roller coaster that is built on a mountain. People ride in a “car” attached to rails that pulls you up the hill, then it follows a zig zagging spiraling path down the mountain. Riders are able to control their speed with brakes on the car. Children must be at least 3 years old and 36 inches tall to ride with an adult or 7 years and 42 inches tall to ride alone. Riders must be able to perform certain physical tasks to participate.
Mountain Coaster Stats...
